Fasting under the old law had specific structure, but under the new law there was no commandment. Many Jews had to come to terms with the new structure of law, which showed fasting now was not how to show allegiance or obedience.

God gave us His Word so we can understand His will for us. While He gave us a new law under Christ, He does extend grace. We must recognize that grace while adhering to His law.
