
Jesus chose ordinary men to walk with Him, observe His life, learn His heart, and to be shaped by His example and teaching. While those men weren't complete at the time of their calling, they grew into what Jesus needed them to be under His training.

The Sabbath laws pertained to the old law of Moses. During Jesus' time on earth, He lived under the old law, while living to create a New Law. The Pharisees had added their own amendments to the law of Moses, going above God's design. As Lord of the Sabbath, Jesus showed people His correct understanding of the law.

Fasting under the old law had specific structure, but under the new law there was no commandment. Many Jews had to come to terms with the new structure of law, which showed fasting now was not how to show allegiance or obedience.
